PURPOSE: Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves: To nurture our faith through prayer and Bible Study; to support the mission of the church worldwide; to work for justice and peace; and to build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (USA) and witnesses to the promise of God's kingdom. At McDowell and Headwaters, PW is the go-to group. When there's a dinner that needs planning, when a member needs help, when a mission needs funding, when a project needs organizing, or when a road trip seems like a good idea, PW is there. PW provides funds for local missions such as Weekly Religious Education (WRE), LOGOS (children's after-school program), Presbyterian Home of the Highlands, Hunters Who Care, and Shenendoah Presbytery Relief Fund. Worldwide mission financial support goes to such efforts as the Least Coin and Church World Services. Mission activities include Thanksgiving baskets for local families and the provision of warm clothing for the winter months to the people served by Zaccheus' Kitchen in Washington, D.C. Within McDowell, the women of PW visit shut-ins and engage in outreach within the local community, and organize the decoration of the sanctuary for Christmas every year, provide lunch every Sunday following worship. PW meets on the third Tuesday of every month at 9:00 a.m. in the McDowell Fellowship Hall for Bible Study and prayer and to conduct business, often to adjourn for a road trip to many of the wonderful locations in the area for food, fellowship and fun. Come and join the Presbyterian Women of McDowell and Headwaters to serve the Lord in joy and love. PW'S MISSION FOR 2008-2009: Feed the Hungry PW has started collecting food (canned and dry goods) for the hungry in two baskets in the church - one in the front and the other in the Fellowship Hall. This ministry is in conjunction with Word of Faith Church in Monterey and their Food Bank. Simply drop off your donations at McDowell and someone from Word of Faith will periodically pick them up.
